The Nikon D3 digital SLR full-frame camera provides a 12.1 mega pixel, FX format CMOS sensor. The 9fps continuous mode, apart when you are taking RAW images, should request to all the sports photographers out there, supported by Nikon’s next-generation 51-point AF system. The Nikon D3 has an incredibly versatile ISO range of 100-25,800 (yes, ISO 25,800!), new EXPEED image processing engine with 14-bit A/D conversion and 16-bit image processing, and a high resolution 3 inch LCD screen with 920,000 pixels.

Other standout features include Live View with Autofocus, Also provide maximum flexibility and reliability are the D3’s other headline features: 51-point auto focus, Nikon’s latest Expeed image processing engine (also in the D300), 3-inch 920k dot monitor with live view, active D-lighting (Nikon’s contrast adjustment feature), built-in scene recognition system, plus the relative rarity of HDMI video output (again as featured on the D300). For sports photographers looking to transfer their images from a ground, Nikon has recently introduced a compatible WT4 wireless transmitter that’s A, B and G compliant to avoid possible conflicts with other Wi-Fi devices – though obviously its usage is dependent on the local network being up to scratch. With a new, Nikon-developed 12.1 mega pixel FX format CMOS sensor plus selectable ISO extending all the way up to ISO 6400 and a HI option equivalent to ISO 25600, making it not only a fast shooter but one capable of best-in-class low performance, this is truly one amazing piece of technology encased in a solid-feel magnesium alloy body built like the proverbial outhouse at a weight of 1240g (2.7lb).

Nikon claims shutter lag is 37 milliseconds – which in practice mean it’s imperceptible. You also get a choice of RAW (Nikon NEF format), JPEG or RGB TIFF files, plus the expected RAW + JPEG feature. While in one shot mode JPEGs are committed to memory literally in a flash and TIFFs only a slight margin slower, after a burst of 17 or so RAW files the camera’s buffer is full and it is make a cuppa time while they are committed to card; a gross exaggeration of course but the difference is inevitably pronounced. The D3 also have functionality an entirely new 51-point auto focus system with Nikon’s 3D Focus Tracking feature and two List Views are shooting a mode that gives photographers to frame a photograph using the camera’s high-resolution LCD monitor.

The D3 uses the world first Scene Recognition System to integrate the accuracy of auto focus, auto exposure and auto white balance detection in the camera by getting the subject or scene being photographed and applying this information to the calculations for the three functions. The D3 also functionality two Compact Flash card slots that can be used for consecutive recording , side by side recording (backup), separating recording of RAW and JPEG files or even copying pictures between the two cards. Images can be displayed directly from the camera to a high-definition monitor using the camera’s HDMI port and an optional cable.
